McDougall-Hunt Sustainable Redevelopment Implementation Plan

The McDougall-Hunt Sustainable Redevelopment Plan is a comprehensive urban renewal initiative that aims to revitalize the McDougall-Hunt neighborhood in Detroit, Michigan. The plan is based on sustainable development principles, which prioritize social, environmental, and economic sustainability.

The plan includes the redevelopment of vacant and blighted properties, the creation of green spaces and public amenities, and the promotion of mixed-income housing. The implementation of the plan is a collaborative effort between the city government, community organizations, and private investors.

Since its adoption in 2013, the plan has made significant progress in improving the quality of life in the McDougall-Hunt neighborhood. New businesses have opened, new parks have been created, and the neighborhood has become more walkable and bike-friendly. The plan has also helped to increase homeownership and reduce poverty in the area.

Overall, the McDougall-Hunt Sustainable Redevelopment Plan serves as a model for how sustainable development principles can be used to revitalize urban neighborhoods and promote equitable growth.

The implementation of the plan is divided into 5 main categories

  • Residential Resources

Community Connections Feeling like an active and valued member of your community is proven to improve outcomes for seniors and disabled people who may have difficulty leaving their homes. The Community Connections program delivers a delicious, hot meal to participants once per week. More Than a Meal Although providing a reliable hot meal is essential to the Community Connections program, it serves a deeper purpose. It allows us as an organization and neighbor to create at least one lifeline that could spell the difference between tragedy and survival for some of our most vulnerable community members. It also allows us a way to deliver community news and information to them reliably.

Open Space &

Mobility

Goal: To create equitable access to open space that is safe and accessible to all members of the community. To increase mobility justice within the community so every resident and visitor can feel safe existing on the streets
