FROM BAILEY PARK PROJECT TO BAILEY PARK NEIGHBORHOOD DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION
The Bailey Park Neighborhood Development Corporation (BPNDC), began in 2013 with the idea of cleaning some vacant lots and building a park. Originally formed as Bailey Park Project, Katrina Watkins, a former social worker, educator, and long-time resident of the McDougall-Hunt, wanted to remove blight and build beauty in her neighborhood. As she worked to gather volunteers and began to tackle larger and larger projects the scope of work shifted from being reactive to being proactive. Katrina knew the capacity of her neighbors to come together to transform McDougall-Hunt and all that was needed was a catalyst. She worked with residents to form our partner and sister organization the McDougall-Hunt Neighborhood Association, she forged relationships with City officials and other well-established organizations and businesses like The Cedar Tree Foundation, Eastside Community Network, U-Snap Bac, Quickens Loans, Detroit Future City, Eco Works, Mecca Development Corporation, MDOT, Team Rubicon and Comerica Bank. Many of these organizations would become important partners in the McDougall-Hunt Strategic Redevelopment Plan.

By 2019 Bailey Park Project was no longer fitting to encompass an organization that was now actively working towards the revitalization of McDougall-Hunt and committed to delivering programs and services that encourage safety, sustainability, and stewardship. The name was changed to Bailey Park Neighborhood Development Corporation to reflect the expanded vision and scope of the organization.
When the COVID-19 pandemic hit in 2020 the need for a swift response was evident. BPNDC established The Hub to serve as a central access point for services and resources offered by, or in partnership with, Bailey Park NDC. Currently, due to COVID restrictions hours are limited by appointment only, but soon we will be registering people and “pods” for programs and when the weather is warm we will resume outdoor activities on the Hub grounds as well as at Bailey Park.
Although there have been many changes for our organization already, and many more to come, the core of our commitment to McDougall-Hunt will always remain the same.
Building a safe, sustainable, and equitable community through social and environmental impact projects.
